Iran, Kuwait to Sign Agreement for Expansion of Cooperation

KUWAIT -- Experts from the interior ministries of Iran and Kuwait here Tuesday started official talks ahead of a joint meeting slated to start on Thursday.
During their upcoming two-day meeting, the experts are to examine mechanisms by which to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields, including those that would boost internal security within each country's borders.
The Iranian delegation to the talks is led by Mohammadjavad Haqshenas, director-general for political affairs of the Iranian Interior Ministry, while the Kuwaiti panel will be headed by Colonel Abdullah al-Fares, director-general for security affairs of the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry.
Both expert delegations have been entrusted with the task of preparing the agenda for next week's ministerial meeting.
Iran and Kuwait signed a memorandum of understanding in 1997 concurrent with the visit to Tehran of Sheikh Muhammad al-Khalid as-Sabah, Kuwaiti interior minister, for cooperation in the area of drug control and domestic security.
Haqshenas, who heads the Iranian expert delegation, left Tehran for Kuwait Monday night.
Iranian Interior Minister Hojjatoleslam Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari is due to arrive in Kuwait on Thursday at the invitation of his Kuwaiti counterpart.
While in Kuwait, Lari and his counterpart are expected to sign a number of agreements to further bilateral cooperation.
